The Boston Museum of Fine Art is one of the best Boston, Massachusetts tourist attractions today. The museum opened on July 4th in 1876 and has a collection that was largely relocated from the Boston Athenaeum Art Gallery. However, over time other works of art have joined their permanent collection of 450,000 works with pieces that represent Ancient Egypt, American Art from the 17th and 19th Centuries, as well as French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works and a Japanese art collection. The location of the Boston Museum of Fine Art is located among many other art attractions in Boston. It is located on Huntington Avenue which is known as Boston’s “Avenue of the Arts”. However, prior to 1909, the Museum was located in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. Recently, the Boston Museum of Fine Art has started to expand with renovations that will revolutionize their education, conservation, and gallery facilities. This will ensure that the Museum, known as the MFA to Boston residents, will continue to host a worthy atmosphere for the treasures contained within it. |

Some of the well-known highlights of the collections of Boston Museum of Fine Art come from a variety of artistic and stylistic traditions around the world. Paul Gauguin’s Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going is one of the most recognizable works housed in the Museum. Other popular works that are part of the Museum’s permanent collection are: paintings by Frederick Edwin Church and John Singleton Copley, Classical Greek art from the Hellenistic period, and paintings by European greats such as El Greco, Velazquez, Rubens, and Rembrandt. |

Visitors to Boston should note that the Boston Museum of Fine Art allows free admission on Wednesdays after 4 pm, but charges a reasonable admission price on its other operating days. Special exhibitions sometimes require a separate admission charge which varies from the regular admission price. For those who need an after-dinner entertainment in Boston, the Museum stays open until 9:45 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. No-flash photography is also allowed in many portions of the Museum’s galleries. Over one million visitors attend the Boston Museum of Fine Art every year.
