It has been said that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Then why is it some paintings are more famous than others. We believe the popularity of a painting comes from its exposure. The more exposure painting gets, the more famous it will become. Take for example the most famous painting in the world; the Mona Lisa(Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo) painted originally by Leonardo DaVinci. Until the 20th century, Mona Lisa was one among many and certainly not the "world's most famous painting." It appears in hundreds of advertisements, has inspired other artists, poetry and even forgeries. But why is it a famous painting? The Mona Lisa is famous mainly for being famous.
